Bichitrananda Swain attributes all his achievements and his very being to the grace and blessings of the Divine Mother, Adya Parashakti Maa Mangala Gauri. Orphaned at a young age - his mother passing when he was nine and his father during his college years - he has since surrendered his life to the Universal Mother, seeking refuge at her sacred feet.

As a child, Swain was skeptical of the devotion shown by those around him, particularly the practice of idol worship. However, his life took a profound turn during a fateful night walk through a graveyard, where, driven by fear, he instinctively called out to the Divine Mother. From that moment, he experienced a powerful spiritual awakening, as if the Mother had been waiting for his call. She revealed her presence to him, endowing him with a superhuman strength that coincided with the beginning of his journey in dance and music. This pivotal moment marked the beginning of his spiritual and artistic path, preparing him for the challenges and purpose that lay ahead.

Looking back on his life’s journey - with all its highs and lows - Swain sees each step as part of the Divine Mother’s greater design. From his modest and lonely beginnings, he never imagined that he would one day be surrounded by such a vibrant community of talented students who make him proud each day. Rudrakshya Foundation, which he founded not from ambition but from necessity, grew out of his vision for a gurukul that would embody harmony between Guru and disciples, a place where students, teachers, and the larger community could feel truly at home. His goal was to nurture young talent and instill both the technical training and confidence required to thrive as professional artists.

Swain has been blessed with an abundance of dedicated disciples and supporters, and through their collective efforts, Rudrakshya Foundation has flourished. One of its most important missions is to elevate and normalize the male aesthetic in Odissi dance - a mission close to Swain’s heart.

His own training was shaped by two and a half transformative years at the Odissi Research Centre under the guidance of Padma Vibhushan Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra. Both Guru Kelucharan and his foremost disciple, the legendary Smt. Sanjukta Panigrahi, played pivotal roles in Swain’s artistic development. Guruji's precision and mastery revealed to him the deeper science behind dance and music, while Sanjukta Panigrahi provided inspiration and support to young male dancers at a time when opportunities for them were scarce.

During his time at the Research Centre, Swain often faced the frustration of seeing male dancers overlooked in favor of their female counterparts - even in roles like Krishna, which traditionally belong to men. This recurring injustice led many under-trained boys to become teachers prematurely, perpetuating a lack of depth and rigor in the art. Swain, recognizing this issue, decided to change the narrative.

As he began teaching, he resolved to focus on developing male dancers into skilled artists and capable teachers. His choreographies began to reflect this mission - designed to emphasize masculine strength and presence, rather than adapting to feminine aesthetics. Through his efforts, Odissi dance has seen a growing acceptance and visibility of male dancers, who now thrive under his guidance.

Yet, Swain's journey is far from complete. With increasing interest from students across the globe and the need for more space to accommodate local dancers, he envisions relocating the Rudrakshya gurukul to a new, permanent site - on a serene plot of land he has acquired 10 km outside Bhubaneswar. There, he dreams of building an ideal space dedicated to the life of dance and music. He believes, with the continued blessings of the Divine Mother, this vision will come to life.

Bichitrananda Swain remains unwavering in his devotion to the art form. He prays that even in future lives, he may continue to serve dance. To him, his students are not merely learners but family, united by love and a shared purpose. The doors of Rudrakshya are open to all - from any part of the world - who wish to experience and contribute to this sacred art. Santosh Ram began his journey in Odissi dance at the age of fifteen and is currently a dedicated disciple of Guru Bichitrananda Swain at Rudrakshya Foundation. Recognized as one of the most promising dancers of the institution, he is admired for his expressive presence and technical finesse.

He holds a Master of Philosophy (M.Phil) in Odissi from Utkal University of Culture, Bhubaneswar. His training has been enriched by the guidance of several esteemed gurus. At Rudrakshya Foundation, he trained under Sri Lingaraj Pradhan and Sri Amulya Kumar Balabantaray. During his academic tenure, he also received instruction from Guru Smt. Snehaprava Samantray, Guru Sri Niranjan Rout, Guru Sri Naba Kishore Mishra, Guru Sri Manoranjan Pradhan, Guru Sri Kanduri Charan Behera, Guru Sri Lingaraj Swain, and Guru Sri Pankaj Kumar Pradhan.

Santosh is a recipient of the National Scholarship and the Senior Scholarship awarded by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India—recognitions that underscore his dedication and growing stature in the field of classical dance. His commanding stage presence and refined technique have made him a favorite among audiences and connoisseurs alike.

A highlight of his performance career is his role as Krishna in Rudrakshya’s acclaimed production Chakravyuha, which received widespread appreciation for his powerful portrayal. Santosh has performed at numerous prestigious festivals, both in India and abroad. His international tours with Rudrakshya Foundation include performances in Australia, New Zealand, Sydney, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, South Korea, and Beijing, China.

Santosh Ram continues to evolve as a dancer, bringing grace, discipline, and depth to every performance, and representing the next generation of excellence in Odissi.

Samir Kumar Panigrahi is an accomplished Odissi dancer known for his refined aesthetics and deeply expressive artistry. A full-time performer with Rudrakshya Foundation, he trains under the esteemed guidance of Guru Bichitrananda Swain.

Gifted with innate musicality, classical angasuddha (purity of body movement), and striking stage presence, Samir brings a sculptural grace to his performances. When he dances, his form evokes the timeless beauty of Odishan temple sculptures - imbued with elegance, sensuality, and divine rhythm. He firmly believes in the transformative power of dance and strives to embody its spiritual essence in every performance.

Samir began his Odissi training at Saraswati Sangeet Mahavidyalaya in Bhadrak, and later advanced his studies at Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya, Bhubaneswar. There, he trained under renowned gurus including Guru Sri Nabakishore Mishra, Guru Sri Manoranjan Pradhan, and Guru Sri Pankaj Kumar Pradhan. He continues to refine his art under the mentorship of Guru Sri Manoranjan Pradhan and Guru Sri Lingaraj Swain.

Over the years, Samir has received multiple accolades and has graced the stage at prestigious national and international festivals. His international performances include tours across Australia, New Zealand, Sweden (2017), the United States, France, China, Malaysia, and Sri Lanka.

With a rare combination of discipline, devotion, and grace, Samir Kumar Panigrahi continues to be a powerful presence in the world of Odissi dance, captivating audiences worldwide with his artistry.

Debashree Patnaik is a dedicated Odissi dancer and a committed student of Rudrakshya Foundation, where she has trained under the guidance of Guru Bichitrananda Swain and Yudhishthir Nayak. Her artistic journey is marked by discipline, grace, and an unwavering devotion to the classical form.

Debashree has been honored with numerous prestigious awards in recognition of her talent and contribution to the arts. These include the National Youth Award from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, and the State Youth Award from the Government of Odisha. She is also the recipient of the Senior National Scholarship for Odissi from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Government of India, as well as the Rajiv Gandhi Pratibha Puraskar, awarded by the Governor of Odisha, and the Biju Patnaik Award, presented by the Chief Minister of Odisha. In addition, she was conferred the 44th Sringarmani Award by Sur Sringar Samsad, Mumbai.

Debashree holds the title of Nrutya Visharad from Akhil Mohan Vidyalaya and is a Doordarshan-graded artist, recognized for her excellence in classical performance.

She has performed extensively across India and internationally with Rudrakshya Foundation, showcasing her art in countries such as France, the USA, Italy, and South Korea. With a strong foundation in tradition and a powerful stage presence, Debashree continues to shine as a distinguished exponent of Odissi dance.

Roji Swain is a dedicated Odissi dancer and a devoted disciple of Guru Bichitrananda Swain at Rudrakshya Foundation, Bhubaneswar. She has completed her Master of Philosophy in Odissi Dance from Utkal University of Culture, Sanskruti Vihar, Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

Roji is a Doordarshan-graded artist (Odisha) and has performed extensively across India at several prestigious national and international dance festivals. She is empaneled with various esteemed cultural organizations, including SPIC MACAY, Festival of India (Ministry of Culture, Government of India), Navapallava, and EZCC (Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre), and has also been a featured performer in multiple online dance and music festivals.

Rohita Pradhan serves as the steadfast anchor of Rudrakshya Foundation, where he holds the roles of Managing Director, Technical Expert, and Administrator. Beyond overseeing the organization’s administrative and operational affairs, he brings deep artistic passion and discipline to his work as a trained and accomplished Mrudanga (Mardal) player.

His musical journey began at the tender age of nine in his native village, where he first studied under the guidance of Guru Sri Souri Bisoi. At fifteen, he furthered his training in Mardal at the prestigious Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya in Bhubaneswar. Demonstrating exceptional dedication and talent, Rohita went on to earn his Master of Philosophy (M.Phil) in Mardal, studying under several renowned gurus of international acclaim.

Today, he is widely recognized among the younger generation for his expertise in Odissi Mrudanga (Kholo), and is celebrated for his dynamic and expressive playing style. In a relatively short span of time, Rohita has established a distinct identity in the classical music community, earning admiration for his nuanced performances and technical brilliance.

His artistry has graced many prestigious festivals and venues across India, including Andhra University Campus, Krishna Gana Sabha, Guru Gopal Chandra Panda Odissi Foundation, the 9th Toshali National Mahotsav, Golden Jubilee celebrations, Konark Dance and Music Festival, Mukteswar Dance Festival, and the International Dance Festival, among others.
